Having recently planned my own wedding I thought it would be apt for my first post to be a round up of my favourite suppliers, dress designers and wedding go to finds...
Hermione designed my Wedding dress and she creates the most dreamy dresses you will ever lay your eyes on. I always knew I wanted something a little bit different and as soon as I came across Hermione's dresses I knew she was the one! Her fully embroidered bespoke dresses are modern, sexy, romantic, whimsical; basically everything you want in a Wedding dress. She can also personalise the embroidery and add your initials, wedding date or anything you want! If you don't want to go down the usual Wedding dress route then Hermione is your girl!
My friend and fashion illustrator Susannah Garrod designed my invites, food menus and the table plan for my Wedding. She is amazingly talented and her illustrations are beautiful, just take a look at her dreamy instagram account and be inspired! The illustrations she created for my wedding are so special and much more interesting than your traditional invite. We have actually framed them at home and it's great to see them everyday rather than forgetting about them.
Susannah takes on a couple of wedding projects a year and also offers 'live illustrations' at weddings - capturing special moments in ink or providing favours for the guests. I think this is such a wonderful idea and wish I had done this.
Here are just a few examples of her beautiful illustrations.
3. Hattie Rickards
Before I was engaged I was probably (ok definitely) one of those girls who dreamt about their engagement ring and created secret boards on pinterest and kept scraps of torn out images squirreled away in a wedding file in the hope that one day it would be used in all its glory! Sadly my file was created a little prematurely and when the time came to bring out the file I had changed my mind on nearly everything I liked. But, the one thing that I was sure of for quite sometime was that I loved Hattie Rickards jewellery, especially her engagement rings.
Hattie is a British jewellery designer who specialises in beautiful and distinctive bespoke pieces of jewellery and I feel extremely lucky that my engagement and wedding ring have both been designed by Hattie. All of her pieces feel so different from anything else I have ever seen and have a kind of modern and geometric beauty to them whilst feeling utterly bespoke and personal. All of her pieces are made in the UK using fairtrade gold and ethically sourced material. I love my ring and feel extremely lucky to have something completely bespoke which I hope will one day become a family heirloom.
I quickly discovered a traditional Bridal shoe wasn't for me. Let's be honest, they tend to be either diamond and jewelled encrusted stiletto numbers or kitten heeled satin beauties. Perhaps I over exaggerate slightly but I really struggled to find a wedding shoe I remotely liked.
I decided to try and find a beautiful shoe which I could wear again and Bionda Castana's Lana in a coppery metallic colour was the one that gave me that cinderella moment. Feminine and modern with the perfect 4 inch heel they looked amazing and more importantly can be worn again! Bionda Castana was founded in 2007 by by Natalia Barbieri and Jennifer Portman who are both half Italian. They identified a niche in the luxury shoe market, for timeless and understand designs that suit the modern women and all aspects of their daily lives. I love all of their styles and currently have my eye on their Paulette calf hair pool slide with embellishment....perfect for this Summer!
Bionda Castana have also recently teamed up with LK Bennett and created a capsule collection of some Wedding worthy heels....there are 6 designs and the pastel pink, raspberry and blue shades would make the perfect pop of colour.
The Little Potting Shed are the florists based near Chester where I got married and who created my 'floral vision' which was filled full of classic English flowers including David Austin roses, hydrangeas, sweet peas and rosemary.
I had my heart set on lots of hanging flowers in the marquee but I needed to think of a way to create something beautiful which wasn't too expensive. I walked past Scott's restaurant in London during the Chelsea Flower Show and they had a stunning floral hanging arrangement (pictured below) which I thought could look perfect hanging above the tables in the marquee and which didn't need to use a huge amount of flowers and could keep the cost down.
The Little Potting Shed completely understood what I wanted and the flowers they created on the day were amazing! Everyone at the Wedding commented on them and they made the whole day look and feel exactly as I wanted. For me the flowers were one of the most important factors and I really wanted the marquee to feel like a secret garden and to not look cold and stark which they easily can do.
